Together we proved that Food Is Life: Reflecting On a Night of Connection, Health and Community.

As our community continues to face food insecurity and uncertainty about where their next meal will come from, Harmony Community Cares conceived Food as Medicine. Food for Life. as a way to bring together our partners and discuss how we can work collaboratively to feed our community while improving public health outcomes. With a panel of experts offering different perspectives on food access and wellness, the event provided a thoughtful and multifaceted look at what drives food insecurity and how we can move forward together.

The Harmony Food Pantry serves as a key source of food security in North Lawndale. Through the partnerships we maintain with Windy City Harvest, West Side United, and Rush University Medical Center, we continue to provide a more holistic suite of resources to our clients. Thanks to Windy City Harvest, we are able to offer more fresh produce to our weekly pantry visitors. West Side United connects us to a broader ecosystem of community-based organizations working across Chicago’s West Side. And through Rush University Medical Center, we are proud to provide a free monthly heart health clinic for our food pantry clients.

The Food Is Life event was both successful and inspiring. We extend our deepest gratitude to our panelists, Dr. Daniel Luger, Samantha Creightney, and Elle Lynn Quimpo, for sharing their insight and expertise, and to Dr. James Brooks for leading the discussion with clarity and heart. Thank you to The Farm on Ogden for graciously hosting us in such a beautiful and welcoming space. And finally, thank you to our donors and community whose continued support makes this work possible. Together, we are nourishing our neighbors, improving community health, and building a future where everyone has access to the food and care they deserve.
