Harmony Community Cares’ students had another memorable summer as they travelled to different museums, performances, and activities throughout their city. Take a look at the highlights of each trip!
Chicago Children’s Museum
Crown on, sword raised, this future knight wasn't playing it safe at Chicago Children's Museum!
Nearly 50 students kicked off the Community Arts summer field trip season with a day at Navy Pier, exploring the pier, shops, and attractions, then heading into the Children's Museum for rain ponchos in Water City, helmets for the climbing area, and plenty of imaginative play!
A great start to a summer that promises to be filled with activities that help our students explore their city beyond North Lawndale.
Museum of Contemporary Art
Art has a way of opening up new worlds, and our students were completely locked in from the moment they walked through the doors of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
This week's Summer Enrichment Friday field trip took students to the MCA, where they took in exhibits across the museum, including "Dancing the Revolution: From Dancehall to Reggaetón," exploring the visual, political, and spiritual histories of two music genres that have shaped culture around the world.
As a bonus, the Chicago Fire Department on Michigan Ave opened their doors, giving students a full tour of the firehouse and a chance to explore the truck up close.
Getting out into the city and discovering something new. That's what these Fridays are all about.
Chicago Kids Company at the Beverly Arts Center
Some stories you read. This one, our kids got to step inside.
Summer Enrichment took our students to the Beverly Arts Center on Chicago’s South Side for Chicago Kids Company’s production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. For one hour, our kids were fully immersed in a live musical made just for them. Singing bears, a life-sized sheepdog named Bailey, and a Goldilocks who kept them laughing from the first scene. After the final bow, the cast came out to meet them, bears and all, still in full costume.

Community Art Walk in North Lawndale
A neighborhood as rich in history and culture as North Lawndale deserves to be explored and appreciated, so that's exactly what our HCC students did this past Field Trip Friday, a community art walk through the neighborhood. Students soaked in the history and beauty of North Lawndale while identifying key landmarks, murals, and nature sites along the way.
Each student received their own sketch notebook and pen to draw the art they saw on the walk. Stops included the Firehouse, Farm on Ogden, Bell Park, Harmony Community Garden and a look at the history of Route 66.
Sloomoo Institute
Science met art met pure joy. This is what summer learning looks like at HCC!
HCC students took over Sloomoo Institute this week, turning a Chicago field trip into a full sensory playground. From the DIY slime bar to the ball pits and sound rooms, the crew squished, stretched, and explored every corner of it.
